A blue horse for the Kentucky Ambassador

Kentucky is known as the "Bluegrass State", a nickname based on the bluegrass found in many of its pastures because of the fertile soil. Lexington is the heart of the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky, the home of legendary horses and world famous bourbons.

According to the legend a horse called "Big Lex" turned blue from grazing in nourishing bluegrass pastures his entire life.

Under the instructions of Create Events I had to make 10 table centre pieces for the Kentucky’s Ambassador who was visiting London for some delicious Bourbon tastings. The brief was: a blue horse a bottle of Bourbon filled with the colours of the American flag and some blue, red and white beads. Working on a blind spot and tight budget I interpreted the brief with a frosted fairytale look. Focusing mainly on the blue horse, which turned out to be quite small….I embellished the surrounding with an ‘icy’ white and blue landscape (this was also to compliment the ice horse sculpture hired for the event). I then added the allocated Bourbon bottles on each set filled with coloured bath salts and some wire with glass beads stuck at each end to evoke the idea of droplets coming out of the bottle. Once on-site at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel the centre pieces were a bit lost in the spacious Ballroom. I guest next time I should pay a visit beforehand!
