Milano Saloni del Mobile 2018

Form what I experienced in Milan this year designs in general included innovative technology, they were mostly focused on recycling and living in better spaces, engaged with the public, and brought a touch of nostalgia.

Exhibition such as ‘Smart City’ showed interesting way of living our future using technology to help our wellbeing.

A new area called: Ventura centrale (under the railway arches) had  a series of very different installations some of which included: sounds, recycling textile, a pop up American diner and a poetic colour exhibition.

I was also impressed with the top styling which transformed some of the lavish palazzi into incredible environments. Using clever floral arrangement and interesting room division, most installations were executed on a very high standard level. Brands such as Hay took over palazzo Clerici with its office furniture. In such beautiful space any ordinary furniture will look amazing!

The nostalgia element was presents with several designers including Mooi who took inspiration from 10 extinct creatures, including the dodo, umbrella squid, blushing sloth and bearded leopard.

Hermès chose its present at the city’s La Permanente museum with a beautiful installation of its new homeware line. The installation consists of a series of seven oversized houses, each a different colour and covered in glossy tiles, which parade through the space in a game of perspective that evokes some kind of ancient tribal city. The brightly coloured Moroccan tiles, give a sense of hammams and a Middle Eastern feel to the space.

Also my favourite was an installation at the Triennale called ‘Candela’ by 3 British designers Felix de Pass, Micheal Montgomery and Ian McIntyre, an hypnotic and very different way of experiencing time.
